For over 155 years, the Café de Paris has been an unmissable venue on the Place du Casino, with its brasserie and casino attracting artists and celebrities throughout its existence.

The Café de Paris was built in 1868 opposite the Hôtel de Paris and next to the Casino, and is one of the legendary institutions of Monte-Carlo, founded by François Blanc and Prince Charles III. The establishment, owned by the Société des Bains de Mer, is the oldest in the Principality, and was originally called “Café Divan” before it was renamed.

Iconic figures of the cinema such as Frank Sinatra and Cary Grant, members of royal families, and magnates of industry all helped establish the international reputation of the Café de Paris.

An essential meeting place to see and be seen, it offers an unbeatable view over the Place du Casino and its daily spectacle of beautiful cars.

The building, with its stunning façade decorated with balustrades, has seen several transformations and renovations over the course of time. The latest, led by Alain-Charles Perrot, Head Architect of Historic Monuments, Alexandre Giraldi, and the interior design studio David Collins Studio, was completed in 2023.

In a two-storey space of 13,000 m2, it reproduces the timeless elegance of old Parisian bistros. With brass light fittings, burgundy leather banquette seating and a superb chandelier made up of some fifty illuminated globes… The chic brasserie has also preserved and renovated its historic Art Deco stained glass and mosaics inspired by the Zodiac.

The redesign of the building has made space for some new luxury shops such as Chopard, Tag Heuer and Tiffany&Co.

On the menu, some of the dishes not to be missed include French onion soup, leeks in sauce ‘gribiche’ (mayonnaise with hard-boiled egg and capers), pâté en croute, eggs mayonnaise with a dash of caviar, mille-feuille, and more. But most especially, the crêpe Suzette, created at the Café de Paris in 1896, for a visit by the Prince of Wales, and flambéed at your table. “The Café de Paris in Monte-Carlo is a Parisian brasserie in a Mediterranean setting. We intend to continue this great culinary story, while working closely with local producers to introduce greater seasonality and more flexibility to the menu,” explains chef Victor Marion. The art of the Sommelier is another new feature, in the person of Noël Bajor, who is abandoning his post at the Louis XV-Alain Ducasse in the Hôtel de Paris.

The Café de Paris Monte-Carlo was the very first restaurant designed by our Group in 1868. More than just a concept, it has now become a real institution: an unmissable rendez-vous for the people of Monaco and an obligatory visit for everyone passing through the Principality.

Stéphane Valeri, Deputy Chairman of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer

The new Café de Paris will be extending its festive gastronomic offering with the opening in 2024 of the Amazonico concept, originally from Madrid, and already open in Dubai and London.
