Sphyrna Odyssey: new technology coming to the rescue of cetaceans
The Sphyrna Odyssey mission is using two new-generation marine drones powered by renewable energy to listen to cetaceans in the Mediterranean.
The aim is to gain a better understanding of the marine ecosystem in order to improve how we protect it. The expedition is supported by the Prince Albert II Foundation and Monaco Explorations.
How do cetaceans hunt? What speed do they move at and do they come up to the surface? The Sphyrna Odyssey 2019 mission, under the scientific direction of Professor Hervé Goltin from the University of Toulon, aims to answer all of these questions and to study the behaviour of these huge mammals in the Mediterranean.Read more
