Monaco is taking part in the 2025 World Expo, hosted by Osaka. The Principality will present a “Take Care of Wonder” pavilion to promote the country’s environmental commitments.

Monaco’s pavilion for the next World Expo in 2025 is set in the heart of Yumeshima, the artificial island built in Osaka Bay, and adjacent to the Ring, a 12-metre high circular central roof equipped with walkways which will be one of the world’s largest wooden buildings in the world when it is completed…

At a World Expo aimed at “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, the Monaco Pavilion will focus on the theme “Take Care of Wonder”. “Take Care of Wonder” means realising that when we care for nature, we care for ourselves, and that by taking care of our fragile and marvellous planet, we help maintain our species,” explains the World Expo team. The Pavilion was designed by a team of two architects: Jérôme Hein (The A Group) and Nicolas Fedoroff (Atelier Pierre). Its interior design was provided by Simmetrico, an agency that has already worked with Monaco for the 2017 World Expo in Astana.

The architecture of Monaco’s pavilion was directly inspired by Mediterranean and Japanese gardens. Visitors will stroll through the natural and metallic garden and discover a unique sensory experience thanks to the garden’s design. Eight haiku poems will bring together the specificities of both cultures in a tribute to the 2025 event’s host country. Attendees will also be able to visit the Principality’s most emblematic sites thanks to an interactive display: the former Royal Palace, the oldest parts of which date to 1191, the iconic Monte Carlo Casino and the Oceanographic Museum and Japanese Garden, designed by landscape artist Yasuo Beppu (winner of Flower Exhibition of Osaka in 1990). Another space will highlight the history of a country dedicated to the ocean for the last 100 years, as well as Prince Albert I. The pavilion will also feature achievements and projects underway in favour of sustainable mobility, the fight against climate change and the preservation of natural heritage, including efforts led by the Prince Albert II Foundation of Monaco.

The Principality of Monaco has participated in World Expos since the Vienna Fair of 1873. It joined the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in 1958. The country has taken part in several World Expos since, including the one held in Osaka for the first time in 1970. The upcoming Expo will welcome more than 28 million visitors and present 160 countries and nine international organisations between 13 April and 13 October 2025.
