Monaco to Hold the Presidency of the Council of Europe

Monaco will hold the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in 2026, marking an important step in the Principality’s role within multilateral institutions. 

For the first time in its history, the Principality of Monaco will assume the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in 2026 (from 15 May to 10 November). Each member State of the Organisation takes on this role on a rotating basis, with Monaco following the Republic of Moldova and preceding Montenegro. This represents a significant responsibility for the world’s second smallest State after the Vatican, but one with a strong commitment to European values.

The Presidency will therefore focus on delivering concrete responses to the contemporary challenges at the heart of the Council of Europe’s mandate, while also reflecting Monaco’s distinct voice. As Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, underlines, it is grounded in a clear conviction: a State, regardless of its size, can act effectively, uphold values and contribute to global challenges.

A Strengthened Political and Diplomatic Role

Over the six-month period, Monaco will coordinate the work of the 46 member States under the Presidency of Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, while Ambassador Gabriel Revel will chair meetings in Strasbourg. The stated objective is clear: to translate commitments into concrete action. Several key milestones will mark the Presidency, including a meeting of Ministers of Justice and international events to be held in the Principality.
