The Principality of Monaco, which has been named Best Destination 2025 by European Best Destinations, is a popular independent and business tourism destination. Its appeal is based on its rich history, iconic locations and modern infrastructure.

Monaco has been attracting an international clientele seeking exclusivity since the nineteenth century. Led by Prince Charles III, the Principality experienced a huge boom in tourism with the establishment of the Société des Bains de Mer in 1863. This resulted in the emergence of a luxury tourism sector, driven by the official opening of the Casino de Monte-Carlo and some prestigious hotels.

Unbeatable attractions

Monaco has an abundance of iconic locations which make it a unique destination. The luxury and fabled atmosphere of the Casino de Monte-Carlo are a source of fascination for visitors. The Casino has provided a backdrop for numerous films, such as GoldenEye, with Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, and Ocean’s Twelve, featuring a stellar cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.

The Prince’s Palace is, of course, one of the country’s huge draws. A visit to the official residence of the Grimaldi family, including the State Apartments, and the famous Changing of the Guard is what attracts a good number of the 8 million visitors to the Principality each year. On the Rocher, the Oceanographic Museum, founded by Prince Albert I, with its spectacular aquariums and exhibitions on marine biodiversity, appeals to those who love the sea.

Plenty of variety

In the city, art fans can choose between the collection at the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco, comprising more than 10,000 works, largely dating from the nineteenth to the twenty-first centuries, the Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation or the large exhibition held each summer at the Grimaldi Forum.

The highly popular Exotic Garden, perched high above the Principality and featuring an outstanding collection of succulents, offers a verdant interlude and a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean.

Monaco: a hub for business tourism

Monaco was named the Best Destination in Europe 2025 by European Best Destinations, a leading tourism promotion body and partner of the European Commission. This prestigious title confirms the Principality’s status as a top international destination.

A mainstay of the economy

Tourism is a mainstay of the Monegasque economy. According to Monaco Statistics (IMSEE), in 2023 the occupancy rate for hotel rooms in Monaco was 56%, with an average price per room of €506. Monaco’s accommodation and food services sector generated revenue of close to a billion euro (€999.1 million). Business tourism accounted for around 20% of the sector. Each year, the Grimaldi Forum hosts trade fairs and international conferences. The Principality also benefits from great connections, thanks to the nearby Nice-Côte d’Azur airport, the country’s own heliport and its public transport network.
