Founded in 1994, the International School of Monaco (ISM) is a private school offering bilingual French/English education from nursery to baccalaureate level. Along with 2,000 other schools in more than 125 countries, it is part of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).

In order to prepare them for the International Baccalaureate, the school’s pupils also follow the University of Cambridge’s International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme.

More important than academic knowledge, children’s wellbeing is at the heart of the ISM’s approach to teaching.

This philosophy is explained on the school’s website: “Our mission is to enable our 650 pupils representing 55 different nationalities to flourish academically and personally so that they become engaged citizens who acquire a lifelong love of learning and are prepared for the responsibilities they will face in a constantly changing world.”

The ISM also considers parents to be genuine partners in educating children and in the everyday life of the school. It has therefore created a Parent-Teacher Association, a School Council and a Board of Trustees. The latter has nine members elected for a three-year term. It appoints the school’s Director, defines policy and approves budgets.
