Originally the reserve of comic book fans, pop culture conventions have become popular, attracting celebrities, cosplayers and fans from around the world. The biggest event, Comic Con, held for the first time in 1970 in San Diego, will launch in Monaco in 2025.
In preparation for the event, set to host over 250 stands, the Grimaldi Forum hosted a “Prelude” version with 30 stands in November 2024. November’s Prelude event was attended by some 50 international guests, including actor Scott Eastwood, Clint’s son, who performed in Fast & Furious, Snowdon, Gran Torino and Invictus. “This Comic Con Prelude is a perfect sneak-peek at the Comic Con experience for fans to come from around the world and discover the Principality of Monaco”, said co-organiser Cédric Biscay.
The Monaco Comic-Con co-owner founded the Monaco Anime Game International Conferences (MAGIC), a special event for fans of Japanese culture – ‘Otaku’ – to come meet their idols.
For fans of movies, TV series, manga and anime, video games, cosplay, comic books and more, Monaco Comic Con will be an opportunity to meet celebrities; see special film screenings and previews; attend panel discussions and performances, and browse comics, games and collectibles. There will also be the traditional international cosplay competition.
“With a chance to celebrate the joy and enthusiasm of pop culture, comic book and film fans in Monaco, home of James Bond, Yachting and the Monaco Grand Prix, it’s the thrill of a lifetime. The Grimaldi Forum is a breathtaking venue for bringing fans together and creating multi-generational memories. I’ve never seen this much excitement about a convention. It’s going to be awesome,” says the other co-organiser of the Monegasque convention, Mike Bundlie.
