Previewed in Monaco on 3 June 2019, the FlySafe programme makes it possible to identify and monitor all authorised drone flights in the Principality, and to take civil aviation in Monaco into the new digital era.

Above all, the programme heralds the development of numerous functions for the future. The Principality has become one of the only nations to have this kind of unmanned aircraft management system.

The FlySafe presentation featured a live simulation of the delivery of a package by drone from Monaco Heliport to a ship located off the Port of Cap d’Ail, including a border crossing between Monaco and France – a change of airspace coordinated between the two countries, in a zone which sees 35,000 helicopter movements and 500 drone flights every year.

Air Space Drone, which is operating the project in cooperation with the Civil Aviation Authority, has therefore developed a system which comprises tracing devices fitted on board drones, a web server for air traffic controllers and a smartphone app for operators.

Pilots will be able to operate drones and receive notifications via the same platform, while controllers will have access to an overview of the manoeuvres to be carried out and the risks to avoid.

Drones and, in the future, other electric aircraft, represent a turning point, an opportunity for our energy transition. […] With this tool, we are preparing the future.
