Monaco already has two leisure ports on its territory, Hercule and Fontvieille, and by 2025 a marina will be built on the Larvotto offshore urban extension. The Principality also has berths in the port of Ventimiglia.
Port Hercule, situated in what is now the La Condamine district, is the Principality’s historic port. Its first traces date back to Greek and then Roman antiquity. At that time, Port Hercule was an important part of the trade routes of the Mediterranean basin. According to legend, Monaco was perhaps even founded by the demigod while he was on his way to complete one of his Labours!
