The polar exploration superyacht M/Y Ragnar made her first appearance at the Yacht Club of Monaco on the occasion of the “Monaco:  Capital of Yachting Experience,” held in September 2020.

Built in 2012, this ship was originally a 68-metre supply vessel, and has been completely refitted by the ICON company as an exploration superyacht.  This “explorer,” which has a range of 6,000 nautical miles, is now capable of sailing anywhere in the world, as far as the Arctic.

Equipped with an icebreaker and a polar hull, she can reach the most remote areas of the planet.  This is a real scientific asset;  Ragnar is equipped with an OCS System, which transmits data collected at the ocean/atmosphere interface every hour, and can provide precise oceanographic and meteorological information in extreme conditions.

This superyacht, which now flies the flag of the Yacht Club of Monaco, has set off on a four-year expedition to New Zealand, Japan, Alaska, Russia and Antarctica.  “We are going to share all the data we collect in the course of our work with the Yacht Club of Monaco,” explained Robert Lankester, captain of the M/Y Ragnar.

Symbolically, this ship made her debut in Port Hercule in late September 2020, during the “Monaco:  Capital of Yachting Experience” and Planetary Health Week.

Many events were held during this week, making it possible to put the health of the planet at the centre of discussions, and also to debate health and environmental issues related to ocean yachting.  It closed with the Monte-Carlo Gala for Planetary Health.
