AS Monaco Academy is one of the most reputable training centres in France and Europe. Five world football champions have been trained there: Thierry Henry, Emmanuel Petit, Lilian Thuram, David Trezeguet and Kylian Mbappé.

Kylian Mbappé, Lilian Thuram, David Trezeguet, Claude Puel, Valère Germain… All were trained at the AS Monaco Football Club training centre. Established in 1975 at the initiative of AS Monaco President Jean-Louis Campora, the role of this centre is to identify talented youngsters who could become the stars of tomorrow. The players are recruited by scouts for their technical abilities, athleticism, game intelligence and strength of mind.

AS Monaco was one of the first clubs in the French championship to launch its own training centre, and in 1992 the club opened another centre in Dakar, Senegal. As proof of the success of this training policy, during the France–Senegal World Cup match in 2002, no less than nine international players trained by ASM in Monaco or Dakar were on the pitch…

Every year, the training centre – which was renamed the “AS Monaco Academy” in 2013 to stress the club’s determination to internationalise the expertise that has become part of its branding – is among the top five best performing talent incubators, according to the annual rankings of the French Football Federation.

This barometer meets several criteria: the number of professional contracts signed by players trained at the club and playing in the top two divisions of the ten countries that rank highest in the UEFA classification, cumulative playing time, national selections, qualifications obtained during their education, etc. Regularly achieving a 100% pass rate in the baccalaureate, the Academy stands out for the education that it offers its apprentice footballers.

In 2022, AS Monaco Academy officially unveiled its new premises in the presence of Prince Albert II of Monaco. Nicknamed “La Diagonale”, it has been designed to bring together on a single site, near the Louis II Stadium, all of the budding young Monegasque players, in order to offer them all of the services and equipment they need (accommodation, education, food, healthcare and physical training). Long led by Gérard Banide, the training centre is now managed by Sébastien Muet, a coach well known in France for his work at FC Metz.

The trainees at the AS Monaco Academy are divided into several groups (U17, U19 and Elite Group) and are supervised by 60 people (coaches and staff, performance/medical department, recruitment, everyday life, education, etc.).

AS Monaco were crowned U19 champions in France in 2013. With five titles (2016, 2011, 1972, 1962 and 2023) the club has won more Coupe Gambardella titles than any other except for Auxerre (7). At the end of april 2023, the ASM players won this competition, which is organised by the French Football Federation and open to the U18 teams of French football clubs, against Clermont.
